Space Brain - The first colony on mars.
Mars bringing human so much imagination for colonization yet it will create sociopsychological issues for people due to the isolated and confined environment. Human send to there will suffer from both physiological and psychological diseases such as headaches, sleep disorders, emotional breakdowns as well as interpersonal conflicts. Therefore, the approach was designing an area that perceived as spacious and interesting by providing choice of program and proper architectural solutions which also fulfills human needs by a self-sustaining system.
The concept of the design is derived from the form of a human brain and spinal cord. It is crucial to study its function as one entity in the help to define the importance of these systems to a building. Similar to the function of the brain and spinal cord towards the human body, the building also serves as a transportation system that connects the different areas which will make it function. The specialty of this creation offers various opportunities in developing the idea. Hence, the building design has been translated in many aspects as in the vertical planning, the spatial configuration and even in the structural system.
In terms of surviving criteria, water in glaciers can be extracted beneath the regolith by heating it until the water evaporates and it can be recycled for growing vegetation or purified for human consumption. Water can also be splitting into its constituent elements, hydrogen and oxygen for human respiration need but most of the oxygen source is produced by the numerous plants in the garden and hydroponic farm. Besides that, food is growing in a hydroponic system and energy are produce by the solar panels wings as well as transparent amorphous photovoltaic glass use in window. The garden dome using ETFE to enable the penetration of day light into the habitat, thus, improving people life quality and ensure planting and crops cultivation. The dome also provides protection against UV and IR radiation due to it being inflated with water. For future feasibility research, laboratories and infrastructure are necessary.
