Problem statement


During the independence and formation of Malaysia, cities reshaping and rural reconstruction, urbanization and upgrading of transportation system such as highways and railway system that contributed to the urban sprawling, the development of new settlement was not only concentrated along the river. The declined of waterfront due to different needs industries are moved and port cities lose their primary function. This led to the deterioration of the city ports, lack of accessibility and to derelict and abandoned waterfronts.


The polluted Klang river also separated the Klang Royal Town into North Klang and South Klang; the railway track also separating the waterfront area with the town. The early settlements along the Klang River had begun declined and neglected. The increasing job opportunities and facilities in new cities, caused increasing of population migration especially the young generation.


Thesis statement


A waterfront revitalization is a well-established phenomenon internationally. Revitalize Klang waterfront as a new public place connecting the North Klang and South Klang, allow public accessibility both in physically and visually. Combine the commercial zone and the cultural zone into one, adding vibrancy and values to quality of life to the society, foster the sense of belonging to city, especially for the young generation.


Public participation is an element of sustainability, cities should benefit from sustainable waterfront development not only in ecological and economical terms but also socially. The community should be informed and involved in discussions continuously from the start. Therefore, it can stimulate creative, productive and active community.


Aim


To bring society back to the river’s edge, moving waterfront from vacant to vibrant in Klang.


Objectives


I. Waterfront as a catalyst to create into a significant place with a distinctive identity and character.

II. Act as a bridge to connecting the North Klang and South Klang.

III. To stimulate public participle and involvement in waterfront development.



Questions


I. What are the suitable programming able to fulfill Klang’s people needs? especially the young generation.

II. What are the youth behavior?

III. What are the way to allow public participation in order to sustain a waterfront development?
